Do you remember being rewarded for reading? Eating a pizza for every book read? Join WIN on Thursday, April 30th, from 12:00-1:00 pm in person in room G-105, for our first summer book club. Inspired by Pizza Hut’s BOOK IT program, we will be discussing The Word is Murder by Anthony Horowitz. Pizza and salad will be provided by Guido’s. We encourage you to support your local libraries or Libby in lieu of purchasing the book. The synopsis of the book will be below. Please RSVP if interested!
The story begins on a bright spring morning in London when Diana Cowper, the wealthy mother of a well-known actor, walks into a funeral parlor to plan her own funeral. It’s a strange thing to do, but even stranger is what happens next. Just six hours later, she’s found dead in her home
That’s where disgraced detective Daniel Hawthorne enters the picture. Hawthorne is brilliant but incredibly difficult, sharp-tongued, eccentric, and not exactly easy to work with. He decides he wants someone to document his cases, a kind of Watson to his Holmes, and somewhat unexpectedly chooses Anthony Horowitz himself to write about them.
Reluctantly pulled into the investigation, Horowitz soon finds himself caught up in a case full of twists and surprises. Even though Hawthorne is brusque, secretive, and often frustrating, the mystery proves impossible to walk away from. As the two form an unusual partnership, it also becomes clear that Hawthorne may be hiding secrets of his own.
