Fun Book Series - Historical Fiction edition: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo (for faculty and staff!)

Inspired by Pizza Hut’s BOOK IT program, we will be discussing The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Pizza and salad will be provided by Guido’s. Aging Hollywood icon Evelyn Hugo shocks everyone when she chooses relatively unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant to write her biography. The choice surprises the entire journalism world, but no one is more confused than Monique herself. Why her? And why now? At this point in her life, Monique isn’t exactly thriving. Her husband, David, has recently left her, and her career feels stuck.

Still, she knows an opportunity like this could change everything. When she’s invited to Evelyn’s luxurious Upper East Side apartment, Monique sits down to hear the actress tell her life story, from arriving in Los Angeles in the 1950s to becoming a legendary star and eventually stepping away from Hollywood in the late 1980s. Of course, there are also seven husbands along the way.

As Evelyn opens up, her story reveals ruthless ambition, complicated friendships, and a deeply hidden love. The more Monique listens, the more she feels drawn to Evelyn and the life she’s lived. But as Evelyn’s story moves closer to the present, it becomes clear that the reason she chose Monique isn’t random at all, and that Evelyn’s past is connected to Monique’s life in ways that are both tragic and impossible to ignore.
